Small Group FAQs

What takes place in Small Groups?
We believe that participating in a small group provides the greatest opportunity for life transformation, for the follower and the seeker of Jesus Christ, to take place. It is the environment where you can care for others and be cared for yourself. All groups agree to follow the model of the early church found in Acts 2:42, where people gathered for fellowship, study of and application of what the Bible teaches and prayer. Groups are safe environments where you can be yourself and learn collectively how to encourage one another in the Life God desires for each of us.

Are there only certain times that I can join a group?
There is always an opportunity to join a small group if you are ready. Sometimes depending on the size of the group or a curriculum that they may be in the middle of, it may be best to either wait a few weeks for a curriculum to finish or a specific group is ready to multiply because of your interest. Regardless, our small group communities are inclusive and a critical purpose of their existence is to be available and a home for you to be a part of. So, please make the call or email whenever you are interested, for an incredibly valuable investment of your time and spiritual growth.

What if I join a group and decide that it is not working out? Can I join another group?
When looking for a group that fits the best, it’s recommended that you talk with the leader and discuss the questions that are important to you. Visiting is encouraged before you make a commitment. Once you join, trust and group chemistry takes time to get established. While there may be many reasons why a group may not be right for you, we try to screen most of these issues prior to you actually committing to a group. There is no better arena to learn to work through issues and conflict than in a biblical community group. Resolving issues or conflict can often be great opportunities for spiritual growth. However, if there is a personal issue that is making the group time for you difficult and it cannot be resolved, the decision to leave and search for a better fit is of course acceptable and encouraged.

When and how often do small groups meet?
This varies and it depends on the group. All groups meet at least twice a month and some meet weekly, taking agreed upon weeks off based on vacations and school calendars. The typical small group season follows the school year. Small groups normally take a break from their “regular” group schedules in the summer, but will meet socially or on a much-abbreviated schedule.

I would like to lead a small group. What is the process or opportunity for this?
We require that small group leaders be members of the church. If you have group leadership experience or the desire to shepherd a group, there are always opportunities. Each group leader is always searching for apprentice leaders who would be willing to be prepared to lead when the existing group reaches the point where it is no longer small (usually 12 or more people). There is a new small group leaders training session held regularly that apprentices and individuals with past group leadership experience are asked to attend. If you have this passion and/or experience, please share this with your group leader or Kirk to establish an action or development plan.

How do I sign-up or receive more information about a specific group? Please contact Kirk at the Church office or a group leader directly if you have any questions or would like to visit a group.
